What BetaQuill collects

BetaQuill processes account and contact details, reader-profile information, campaign participation, manuscript metadata, policy and agreement evidence, and security and audit records needed to operate the service.

Why it is used

Information is used to provide accounts and private workspaces, connect authors and readers, administer campaigns, protect manuscripts, enforce platform rules, communicate service events, and investigate security or abuse reports.

Manuscripts and confidential material

Uploaded manuscripts are treated as private campaign material. They are not published or made publicly accessible by BetaQuill, and are not used for advertising or model training. Access remains subject to workspace, campaign and agreement checks.

Service providers and international access

Hosting, email and other operational providers may process the minimum information needed to supply their services. BetaQuill will document material subprocessors before wider public recruitment.

Retention and your choices

Operational records are retained only as needed for the service, security, disputes and legal obligations. You may request access, correction or deletion by emailing support@betaquill.com. Some agreement, audit or transaction evidence may need to be retained where there is a lawful reason.

Early-access notice: this privacy information describes the current service and will be reviewed before general availability.

Reader-copy attribution

When an author releases a reader-specific PDF or EPUB, BetaQuill may embed visible and non-visible signed allocation markers. The marker itself contains no reader name, email address or other direct personal information. BetaQuill stores the marker and its digest with the relevant delivery record in private platform data, and uses this evidence to deter unauthorised sharing and investigate recovered copies. A marker match identifies an issued allocation; it does not by itself prove who disclosed a file.

Author copy investigations

A verified author may upload a recovered PDF or EPUB to the private investigation tool. The file bytes are inspected for that request and are not retained by the tool. Results are restricted to allocations in workspaces owned by that author; the tool does not disclose another workspace’s reader or campaign information. A successful owned match is recorded in the workspace audit trail. The resulting evidence must be assessed fairly because a copy match is not proof that the allocated reader personally disclosed the file.
