How to release a manuscript securely

How-To guide

Release a manuscript securely.

A release binds one exact clean manuscript version to one assigned reader and creates a traceable copy identifier.

01

Save the campaign

Open Author campaigns, choose Author workspace and open the named campaign. Fill in Title, Campaign type, Primary genre, Status, Maximum readers, Recruitment closes, Reading deadline and Campaign brief. Select Save campaign and wait for confirmation.

02

Assign the intended reader

Open Campaign readers. Choose a reader whose workspace invitation has been accepted, enter the requested due date where shown and confirm the assignment. Check that the reader appears as active in the assignment table.

03

Upload the exact release version

In Manuscript versions, fill in Manuscript title, Author display name and a specific Version label. Choose the exact PDF or EPUB and select Upload private version. Continue only when the table shows that exact version as clean.

04

Publish and check the agreement

Choose Starter template, enter Author / issuing legal name and complete Embargo date or Payment terms when relevant. Review Agreement title and every line of Agreement text, tick both publication confirmations and publish. Check the revision number and fingerprint.

05

Validate and create the reader allocation

In Secure reader delivery, confirm Assigned reader and Clean version both show complete. Choose Reader receiving this copy and Clean manuscript version, verify both selections, then select Validate and release secure copy. Keep the page open. BetaQuill rechecks the source, creates a signed allocation marker, generates and validates the personalised file, records its hashes and confirms only when the allocation is Ready.

06

Reader acceptance, download and revocation

The reader opens My campaigns, requests Email verification code, enters the code and full legal name, ticks the intent statement and accepts the agreement. They then select Create secure download. To stop future access, the author selects Revoke beside the allocation; this cannot retrieve an earlier download.
